Constructed from one single piece of wood at 3/4” thick and installed via nails to the subfloor make them extremely durable and reliable. Hardwood floors are crafted to last, thanks to the possibility of them being refinished and sanded repeatedly with proper maintenance. Because of this, they will last through generations!The main drawbacks to solid hardwood floors are that they can be susceptible to moisture and temperature changes, which can cause the wood to expand and contract. Engineered hardwood floors are made from layers of real hardwood glued together with a top layer of solid hardwood. Engineered hardwood is typically thinner than solid hardwood (sometimes as thin as 1/4”) and is installed by floating it over the subfloor. Engineered hardwood can also be sanded and refinished, but usually not as many times as solid hardwood. The main advantage of engineered hardwood is that it is more stable than solid hardwood, which means it won’t expand or contract as much in response to humidity and temperature changes.
