M*A*S*H was filmed in the Santa Monica Mountains, located in California. This area offered a unique backdrop of rolling hills and beautiful scenery that fit perfectly with the show’s setting. It also allowed for filming to take place outdoors when weather permitted. The production team used an old Boy Scout camp as their main set location where they built a replica of an army base. They also employed local ranchers to provide animals needed for various scenes, such as horses or chickens. With its stunning natural beauty and Hollywood-worthy production capabilities, the Santa Monica Mountains became M*A*S*H’s ideal shooting location.
